2018 Spy stories

flash fiction contest

From Stella Rimington of MI5 to bestselling spy thriller writer Charles Cumming, Edinburgh has a history of producing authors of some of the world’s most gripping spy fiction.

Send us your flash fiction story (no more than 250 words) on the theme of "spies & spying"!

The winner and runner-up will be announced, and invited to perform their stories, at our upcoming event with spy thriller author August Thomas:

Tuesday, September 25 at 6:30 p.m.

50 George Square, Lecture Theatre G.03, at the University of Edinburgh

Please join Edinburgh Spy Week founder Prof. Penny Fielding and recent Creative Writing MSc. alumna August Thomas for a conversation about writing spy fiction for the 21st century, and a short reading from August’s recently published spy thriller, Liar’s Candle, which the Wall Street Journal says “blends the infinity-of-mirrors intrigue of an espionage page-turner with the thrills of an adventure movie”.

You can sign up for the event here:  https://bit.ly/2NicmnM

Contest Deadline: Wednesday, September 19.  One story per person. Open to anyone living in Scotland. Please submit your entry using the form below.

The winner will receive a £20 gift card to Blackwell’s and a copy of the new spy  thriller Liar’s Candle by August Thomas.

* If you aren’t able to attend the event, your prize will be mailed to you.  Entries will be judged blind.
